The Summer solstice is coming, it reminds us to celebrate the nourishing light of the Sun and the light within each of us. During the Summer solstice, the Sun reaches its highest point in the sky and gives us our longest day of the year. The cycle of the Sun represents the cycle of our lives and reflects the natural flow of energy moving inward and outward. There are times to grow, times to pause, times to shed and times to learn. Just as we align with the Moon’s journey every month, we can align with the Sun’s journey throughout the year. In Norse Mythology the Norns where 3 wise women spinners who determined every allotted life span. One spun out the thread of each life, another measured its length, and the third decided when the thread should be snapped. Their names were Urd (also spelled Urdr, or Weird, meaning “Past”), Verdande (“Present”), and Skuld (“Future”). They were depicted as aged, gray-headed hags, and they were respected by all for the immense power they possessed over the destinies of gods and humans alike. Once the Norns had decided someone’s fate, that destiny could not be changed. Even the principal god, Odin, was subject to their power. There is no charge but a donations are welcome. Please wear appropriate clothing and bring something to sit on and something to drink. Drums are welcome and spare drums will be available. Cacao will be served during the ceremony. This is ceremony time and space, so though we have put an end time it is for guidance only. Due to the place we are holding the ceremony it may be cancelled due to bad/extreme weather. |
